I hate people

I'll put the rant behind a cut so if you don't want to read it you don't have to. ;)
So I know I said something about the fact that one of my surveillance officers called me last week and said that his grandmother went into cardiac arrest and he needed me to cover his shifts so he could go to the west side (by Seattle roughly six hours away) to be with him family. I told him no problem as long as he covered shifts for me when he returned. That was the last time I heard from him and the other surveillance officer couldn't get in touch with him either.
Yesterday I went in for my shift as normal at 1500 so I could get my lunch/supper and also get set up and spend some time visiting with my friends who were on shift. Then 2200 rolled around and there was no sign of my night shift officer - the one who had been on the west side. I called and got his voicemail, left a message and called my other officer and got his voicemail. So I called my manager and told her that it looked like I was going to have to pull a double and told her the whole story. When I went out to order some fries from the bar (I hate eating at the casino) I commented that my officer was a no call/no show and I was stuck there until close or someone came in for shift. Not long after that I ran into one of the cashiers who told me that she'd heard that my missing officer had quit - only he hadn't told anyone of the fact. He was just going to disappear. I asked her what was going on and she said that her sister (another cashier/dealer) had told her that my officer had an affair with the slut of the casino and his girlfriend had found out about it and made him quit. They supposedly made up the story about the grandmother so he could just vanish. Then the slut dealer called me and told me a very similar story.
All in all I was at the casino until 0430 when we finally closed for the day. I came home as fast as I could, took some pain killers for the headache that had developed and went to sleep. But I had to get up again and go back to work at 1430 this afternoon. So about six and a half hours of interrupted sleep all together. Not the best to get rid of a headache or actually let you feel rested.
When I got to work I spoke with both my manager and assistant manager about the situation. At that point I knew that I was the only one in town who could work because, as far as the computer list was telling us, my new officer still couldn't work pending something with his license. So that meant it was very likely I was looking at another double shift. My manager called our oversight bureau and found out that they just hadn't updated the list yet and my new guy could work. I was so happy. And he wanted to work nights too, so that meant I could work my shift and get out of there at the regular time.
The officer who bailed on us did show up. My manager talked with him and basically told him that he was fired. She said that she believed the story about his grandmother because he looked really upset and like he hadn't slept in a couple of days. I didn't say anything to her about it, but he could've looked bad if his girlfriend had threatened to leave him too. But the bottom line is that we're still short an officer and school is getting ready to start. *sigh* I've got some calls out so we'll see what happens.
It got to the point that I was too tired to write and just played rummy against myself for a couple of hours. And I'm seriously about ready to bail and head back to bed because I have to change out the tapes in the morning at 1000 before I go back on shift at 1500. I don't sleep well most nights so this isn't an ideal schedule. But it's only for a couple of weeks. I hope.

I just don't know how to contact the writer so I can get her new site so I can read the "newer" stories. I lost alot of websites cause of my old computer going down.
Re: Holmes
Date: 2008-08-09 02:54 am (UTC)Or her livejournal. Or the mailing list. *grin* I'm on all three because I so totally love the series. My best friend doesn't read fanfic and has only heard me talk about it so she vaguely knows about the universe.
Oh, and have you read the Trinity series she's working on? It's Brilliant. Dark and twisted. But brilliant.

Date: 2008-08-09 02:55 am (UTC)Thanks kiddo. He did show up again but didn't come back to see me, which is probably a good thing. I've got a long fuse, but I was tired and cranky that day.
